Hal E. Hershkowitz
Hal started his accounting career in 1980 with the international accounting firm of KPMG Peat Marwick in the Private Business Advisory Services division. From KPMG, Hal moved into the position of CFO/Controller at Photronics, Corp. a publicly traded corporation, later acquired by DRS Corporation. In 1989, Hal moved from Long Island, NY to St. Petersburg, FL to become a partner in the public accounting firm of Joslin & Associates, P.A., later renamed Hershkowitz & Kunitzer, P.A., where he is now President and Managing Partner.
Hal is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant by the State of Florida Board of Accountancy as well as the New York State Board of Accountancy. He has also earned the designation of Certified Florida Sales and Use Tax Auditor from the Florida Department of Revenue, and has been a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Government Accountants. Currently he is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is a current member and Past President of the Suncoast Chapter of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Hal obtained his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, while attending as a Westinghouse Scholar before continuing his education at Adelphi University where he obtained a Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting.
Hal has not only been a prominent member of the accounting community, but of the Tampa Bay community, as well. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of Palms of Pasadena Hospital, Jewish Federation of Pinellas and Pasco Counties, Temple Beth-El and as Treasurer of Vincent House of Pinellas Park/Van Gogh’s Palette, Inc. - a nonprofit social and vocational recovery program for adults living with mental illnesses. In the past, he has served on the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice Advisory Board, as Treasurer of the Jewish Community Center of Pinellas County and Temple Beth-El of St. Petersburg, and most recently, Temple President.
His personal interests include spending time with his wife Judy, while boating, enjoying time in New York City, bicycle riding and taking their dog “Sidney” for walks.
Hal and his wife of 30 years, Judy, reside in Tierra Verde, Florida and have raised three grown children together, Beth, Dean and Dana.
Daniel D. Kunitzer
Dan began his accounting career with "big six" firm KPMG Peat Marwick LLP as a Staff Tax Accountant in Detroit, Michigan and later transferred to the Tampa/St. Petersburg office as a Senior Tax Accountant. From there Dan went into private industry as a manager at Eckerd Corporation for five years. Dan continued his career with "big four" firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP as a Tax Manager before joining Joslin & Hershkowitz, P.A., presently Hershkowitz & Kunitzer, P.A., where he is now Vice President and firm partner.
Dan is licensed with the State of Florida Board of Accountancy as a Certified Public Accountant. Dan is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants where he previously served on the local Suncoast Chapter's Board of Directors.
Dan attended Western Michigan University graduating with a B.A. in Business Administration before continuing his education at Florida Metropolitan University where he received his M.B.A. with a concentration in Accounting.
Dan currently services as Treasurer of The Causeway Isles Neighborhood Association where he is also a past President. Dan is active with the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle where he currently serves on the Parrish finance Council and Development Core Team. Dan is also active with the Cathedral School of St. Jude as the Treasurer of the Parent Association and as Treasurer of the annual Fall Festival. Dan has also been honored as a Life Member Loyal of the Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity.
Dan enjoys fishing and spending time on the water with his wife Michelle and three children; Cameron, Mackenna, and Kyla.
Mark E. Vaughan
Mark has been working in the public accounting field for 15 years beginning his career in Oklahoma before moving to Florida ten years ago to work for C & L Value Advisors in Tampa before joining Hershkowitz & Kunitzer, P.A. in 2005.
Mark is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants as well as the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has been certified in both Oklahoma and Florida.
Mark obtained his accounting degree from Oklahoma State University after finishing two tours with the United States Navy and serving our country for seven years. Mark continues to love life on the water and is an avid fisherman.
Dana A. Hershkowitz
Dana began her foray into the accounting field in 2005 working as payroll and bookkeeping administration for a marketing and advertising firm in Gainesville, Florida. After returning to Tampa Bay in 2008 she chose to join Hershkowtiz & Kunitzer, P.A. and begin her career in public accounting.
Dana graduated from the University of Florida where she studied Non Profit Business Organizations before continuing her education at the University of South Florida where she obtained a B.S. in Accounting. Dana is currently pursuing an MBA in Forensic Accounting with a focus on the non-profit sector.
Dana loves to paint and spend time with her dog at the park when she’s not in the office.
Jennifer A. Beal
Jennifer began her career in Maine working with a small public accounting firm performing public town and school audits. She went on to continue her career with a larger public accounting firm in Maine before moving to Florida with her family in 2006.
Jen earned her Bachelors Degree in Accounting from Husson University in 2000 and is now in the process of becoming a CPA in Florida.
Jen spends her free time with her husband Robert, and three children; Matthew, Conor and Taylor. Jen is involved with her kids youth football league and her boys Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops.
Susan F. Stevenson
Sue joined Hershkowitz & Kunitzer, P.A. as Office Manager in 2004. Prior to signing on with the firm, Sue spent 26 years as bookkeeper and manager for a local restaurant. Sue has 37 years of payroll and bookkeeping experience concentrated in the not-for-profit, hospitality and medical fields.
Sue started her career with the automobile industry in upstate New York after receiving her Associates Degree in Accounting from Broome Community College.
Outside of work Sue enjoys homemaking, cooking and golf.
